SACRAMENTO, CA – The Community College League of California’s (League) 2021 Annual Legislative Conference, Advocating for an Equity-Based Economy, January 25-26, provides an opportunity for California Community College advocates to meet with key members of the State Legislature to discuss important policy issues impacting it’s 2.1 million students. In light of Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2021-22 Budget Proposal, this year’s conference focuses on the California State Budget and the critical need for continued investment in community colleges for their integral role in moving the state from a K-Shaped recovery to an E-Shaped or equity-based recovery and economy.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Community College League of California (League) is pleased to announce a new three-year agreement with ExLibris for the Library Services Platform (LSP), providing a smooth transition to sustain the effort this fiscal year. The LSP Program is a California Community Colleges systemwide project that recently implemented a shared library software solution for 110 participating colleges. Students can now utilize a single search for physical library materials, library database subscriptions, e-books and Open Educational Resource (OER) materials.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, the Community College League of California (League) releases the CEO Tenure & Retention Study, 9th Update, a biennial report providing an overview of chancellor, superintendent/president, and college president tenure rates and an analysis of demographic trends spanning the history of the California Community Colleges. The report observes a continuing move toward a more equitable gender balance, with 59 out of 139 California Community College (CCC) chancellor or president positions held by women in April 2020—marking the largest recorded number in the history of the system. Moreover, four of the five longest-serving CEOs are women. Additionally, the study finds that CCC CEO racial and ethnic diversity is greater than the national average, especially among its Latinx executive leadership. Regarding longevity, in the last 10 years the average tenure of a permanent CEO was 5.1 years and of those exiting their position 46.1 percent retired or passed away in office, 21 percent were either released or left for other reasons and 31.1 percent took another position.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Community College League of California (League) is pleased to announce the re-election of two California Community College (CCC) trustees to national leadership positions on the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Board of Directors. Trustee John Leal from State Center CCD and Trustee Gilbert Wong of Foothill-DeAnza CCD were sworn into office on Friday, October 2nd, prior to the 2020 ACCT Leadership Congress. These trustees will voice California’s needs and will continue to bring our community colleges to the forefront of the national dialogue.

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Community College League of California is proud to announce its endorsement of Proposition 16, a California ballot measure asking voters to repeal Proposition 209 and the ban on equal opportunity in the November 3, 2020, general election. Both the Chief Executives Officers of California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) and the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) Boards passed resolutions endorsing Proposition 16, affirming their strong support of an inclusive higher education system that reflects the diversity of California.
