2022 Annual Legislative Conference

Sun, Jan 30, 2022 to Mon, Jan 31, 2022
Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel
General Info

Similar to all of you, the League is closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) updates and guidelines as the Omicron Variant increases new cases of COVID-19. The League is taking increased precautions to safeguard your health and safety at the 2022 Annual Legislative Conference, January 30-31 in Sacramento. As of Tuesday, January 4, 2022, this event is still scheduled to be in-person unless or until Governor Newsom or the CDPH prohibits in-person gatherings in numbers affecting our conference.

All registrants who attend in-person League events are required to be fully vaccinated (have received the full series of the COVID-19 vaccine) OR show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of the start of the event. Fully vaccinated registrants will be asked to verify their vaccination status when registering for the event and will be asked to show proof on-site at the registration desk upon check-in. Unvaccinated registrants will need to provide their negative COVID-19 test results on-site before entering the event meeting space. In addition, masks will be required for the duration of the event. Click here to review our full COVID-19 Policy.

The League's Annual Legislative Conference provides an opportunity for California Community College advocates to connect and meet with members of the State Legislature at the start of the advocacy season. We invite you to join us in Sacramento for the League’s first in-person event since Spring 2020. Every year, this conference includes discussions surrounding hot topic legislative issues that provide a chance for colleges and districts to engage with legislators.

This year our theme is Investing in Students for an Equitable Recovery. We are continuing our advocacy for an "E-shaped" or equitable recovery as we respond to and rebound from, the pandemic while prioritizing the needs of our students. This is an essential component of our main areas of focus, which include:

  • Increasing funding for our institutions
  • Prioritizing Diversity Equity and Inclusion throughout our system
  • Responding to the multitude of challenges created by COVID-19

We hope you will join us in Sacramento this January as we advocate for our colleges and districts to receive equitable funding to support the students they serve.

NOTE: This conference is held in conjunction with the Effective Trusteeship and Board Chair Workshops, January 28-30, 2022. Separate registration is required.

Legislative Meetings

Due to ongoing COVID-19 precautions, access to the State Capitol will likely be limited in January. During the Annual Legislative Conference, the League will provide meeting space for colleges and districts to meet with their legislators. Colleges and districts have been divided into the following areas/regions. Each area/region will be given a meeting space between 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. To schedule a legislator for your meeting space, please contact your Meeting Space Coordinator (listed below).

NOTE: The League will not be responsible for scheduling any meetings with legislators. Meeting space will only be provided during the hours listed above to the 11 areas/regions. If you wish to have a more private meeting space with just your advocacy team, you will need to find your own meeting space in Sacramento.
