Community College League of California Responds to Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2021-22 State Budget May Revision

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, California Governor Gavin Newsom released the May Revise to the 2021-22 State Budget. Community College League of California President & CEO, Dr. Larry Galizio, released the following statement in response to the budget announcement:

“The League commends Governor Newsom for his bold proposal to invest in California Community Colleges by paying down deferrals, investing in workforce education, providing an increased cost of living adjustment, funding deferred maintenance, and housing for students. The addition of $4 million ongoing Proposition 98 General Fund dollars to support the Library Services Platform, a program the League manages, is significant as it continues to provide library services to better manage and deliver digital information to support teaching and learning and advance student success. The Governor's May Revision offers an equity-based or "E-shaped" recovery where strategic investments in education support a resilient and more equitable California.

We look forward to working with the Administration and Legislature to ensure that our districts have the greatest degree of flexibility to manage their unique needs by ensuring local decision-making is valued. California's community colleges offer the educational pathway needed to create equity and build a stronger California.”
