Community College League of California Commends Governor’s 2022-23 Budget Plan
SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom presented his proposed budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year, known as The California Blueprint, building on the state’s ongoing work to confront the pandemic, bolster the state's economic growth, and make historic investments in California’s future. In response, representatives from the Community College League of California issued the following statements:
Ken Brown, Trustee, El Camino Community College District:
“As president of the California Community Colleges Trustees (CCCT) Board, I want to commend Governor Newsom for once again affirming his commitment to the California Community Colleges. Two years into the pandemic, Governor Newsom is demonstrating that our institutions are the key to a vibrant, healthy, diverse, and equitable society. We appreciate the support demonstrated in the January budget and look forward to working together with the Administration and Legislature to maximize opportunities for student success through local decision making within our 116 colleges across the state.”
Dr. Byron D. Clift Breland, Chancellor, North Orange County Community College District:
“As board president of the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges, I want to express our support and gratitude to Governor Newsom for his January budget proposal. The Governor recognizes that prioritizing the complex needs of our students, including housing, instructional support, financial aid, and structural support for our colleges, advances the shared goals of building a healthier society and a more prosperous economy. As the most innovative and resilient system in California’s higher education system, our college presidents and CEOs stand ready to engage with the Governor and Legislature to bolster public support for higher education and create more equitable opportunities for our diverse student population.”

Governor Newsom stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the League in promoting an equitable society where all can participate and prosper, and we appreciate his recognition that community colleges are essential to advancing this vision. We will be devoting the next six months to maximizing resources for our institutions and students, and we look forward to working with the Administration and Legislature on these shared priorities.”
