Five CCC Trustees Elected to Serve Nationally for ACCT

California Community Colleges trustees continue their tradition of national leadership with ACCT. At last week’s National Convening, two trustees were elected to serve on the 2024 ACCT Board of Directors. Deborah Ikeda (State Center CCD) was elected as the Pacific Region director and Oscar Valladares (Rio Hondo CCD) was elected as an at-large director. Nan Gomez-Heitzeberg (Kern CCD) was elected by the ACCT Board of Directors as the Pacific Regional Chair, a position most recently held by Trustee Gilbert Wong from Foothill-DeAnza CCD.

In addition, two trustees joined national committees. Jose Alcala (Riverside CCD) has been elected to serve on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and Adrienne Grey (West Valley-Mission CCD) has been selected to serve on the Pacific Regional Nominating Committee.

Meet the California Trustees Elected to ACCT Service

Deborah Ikeda served two full terms on the ACCT Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee and is a current California Community College Trustees (CCCT) board member. She retired as founding president of Clovis Community College in Fresno and has since served as board president and vice president for the district's board of trustees. In 2022, she received the M. Dale Ensign Trustee Leadership Award from ACCT for significantly contributing to promoting the community college concept.
 
Oscar Valladares has served the Rio Hondo CCD since 2018 and was board president from June 2019 to November 2020. He was a member of the ACCT Public Policy & Advocacy Committee. He completed the ASPEN Institute Fellowship Program and attended the California Community College Trustees' Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) sessions.
 
Jose Alcala is serving in his second term on the Riverside CCD board. He was a board member for the California Teachers Association, and currently serves as the president for the Riverside City Public Library and as a member of the CCCT board of directors.
 
Adrienne Grey has served the West Valley-Mission Community College District since 2008 and was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. She currently serves as chair of the Legislative and Policy Oversight Committee and is a Mission-West Valley Land Corporation Investment Committee member. Adrienne is a past member of the CCCT board and served as the board’s president during the global pandemic of 2020.

Nan Gomez-Heitzeberg was elected to serve Area IIII in Kern CCD in November 2018.She has more than 40 years of experience in higher education, both in the classroom and as an administrator. After 30 years as an administrator at Bakersfield College, she retired as Vice President of Instruction. Gomez-Heitzeberg also serves on the CCCT board.
